The Code Arcade

Design and build your own small text game in Python — a quiz or guessing game — using sequence, decisions, loops and lists.

What you'll make

A working Python game, a plan (algorithm) for it, a test log showing bugs you found and fixed, and a short designer's write-up.

What you'll learn

  • How to plan a program as an algorithm before coding
  • Variables, input and output
  • Decisions with if / elif / else
  • Loops to repeat things, and lists to store things
  • Testing: predicting, finding bugs and fixing them

You'll need

The Python Lab on the Tech page (runs in the browser) · Paper and pencil for planning · No downloads or accounts needed

Games stay friendly: quizzes, guessing games or a tiny adventure. No personal information goes into the game.

Curriculum links

  • Design, use and evaluate computational abstractions that model the state and behaviour of real-world problems and physical systems
  • Use two or more programming languages, at least one of which is textual, to solve a variety of computational problems
  • Use a variety of data structures, including lists, tables or arrays, and design modular programs that use procedures or functions
  • Understand simple Boolean logic and some of its uses in circuits and programming
