The Pharaoh's Game Room

Design a playable game inspired by a real New Kingdom senet board — and be honest about what you borrowed and what you invented.

What you'll make

A 30-square zig-zag board, counters, three researched fact/event cards (including a ruler card and a map), a museum label and a designer's note.

What you'll learn

  • Why the Nile mattered to daily life
  • Who ruled in the New Kingdom, and when
  • Reading a museum object: original and restored parts

You'll need

Paper or card · A coin · Two counters (buttons work)

Enrichment using KS3 enquiry skills — not evidence of full KS3 history coverage. The rules here are modern and invented, inspired by the object; they are not reconstructed ancient senet rules.

Curriculum links

  • Understand the methods of historical enquiry, including how evidence is used rigorously to make historical claims
  • Gain historical perspective by placing their growing knowledge into different contexts, understanding the connections between local, regional, national and international history
