Maths has its own shorthand for shapes — arrows for parallel lines, little squares for right angles — so a sketch can say as much as a paragraph.

Parallel lines are marked with matching arrows (>>). Perpendicular lines meet at a right angle, shown with a small square. A polygon is a closed shape made of straight sides, such as a pentagon (5 sides) or hexagon (6 sides).

Transformations
A reflection flips a shape over a mirror line, producing a mirror image the same distance from the line. A rotation turns a shape around a fixed centre point by a given angle, such as 90° clockwise.
