Do not try to understand every word. Listen for numbers, times, place names and key verbs like 'part' (leaves) or 'arrive' (arrives). 'Le train pour Paris part à quinze heures' gives you the destination and time even if other words pass you by.

Predict before you hear
Look at any picture or title first. If it shows a weather map, expect words like 'il pleut' (it's raining), 'il fait beau' (it's fine) or 'il fait froid' (it's cold). Predicting narrows down what you are listening for.

Understanding is only half the task — you often need to react. If a message asks 'Tu es libre samedi?' (Are you free Saturday?), a suitable spoken or written reply might be 'Oui, je suis libre' or 'Non, je suis occupé(e)'.
